While waiting for the bus, on-hold, or in the waiting room or pharmacy, I can read and bookmark where I stop - and no heavy awkward book to carry. Now I can reread all my favorites - lots of books with lots of stories about my favorite detective.
I picked this Sherlock Holmes collection over the others, even though its a bit more expensive, because it seemed to include more material (I havent completely investigated that, but I think it might be true), and the graphic design is pleasant. However, Im not crazy about the interface--the text doesnt scroll (you have to flip a chunk of it forward with your finger), and the type size is not adjustable; in my opinion its too big. The bookmarking feature doesnt seem to work that well--you cant save more than one bookmark in a story (though most people wont need to), and I dont see a way to mark passages, or search for words, which some other companies offer. I was particularly dismayed to see, upon first opening the app, that they made a few large spelling mistakes ("Hounds of the Baskervilles" in the TOC; "The Hound of Baskervilles" on the decorative graphic title; and "A Study in Scaret" on a title page)--luckily, there dont seem to be many errors in the actual text, though Ive come across a few (and I havent read that far). I wouldnt expect a cheap digital version of a book to be perfect, and Im glad to have the Holmes stories tucked into my phone, but I think Standard Works does a better book app. I wont buy another one from Ubiklabs unless they improve their interface, or offer a book that I cant find elsewhere.
This app does what its supposed to do: allow me to read Sherlock Holmes in my iPod. For the most part, it works like a charm. The overall design is beautiful and I love the bookmark feature that remembers your page in any of tue stories. Bu there were certain things that I could NOT stand tht gives it its 3 star rating... For all the money that I spent on this appliction, I thought I would at the very least receive a product free of typos. But as it stands, the TOC is riddled with them. Instead of Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, it reads adventuers of Sherlock... incorrect capitalization. The unastetically pleasing dots ... I expected a little more decent. This mispelling is seen on many of th titles on the first page. It looks nothing like the pictures on the iTunes store which are free from typos. What happened to them? :/ Furthermore, on the actual book reading, the same ... is found on the top of the screen where the title reads. It Should be fixed. And I dont understand why the name of the title of the book appears on every single page. "Adventure of Sherlock Holmes Why must it show twice? At the very least, one of them could say the story title, not the book. My last request for a future update is a small animation when you turn this page. I find this works extremely well on other iReaders. The sound that it makes is good but a visual animation would be amazing. Thank you.
